Amazing ...
My late father, Joseph, was a welder in the 757th RR Batallion in Kassel Germany in 1945. Among some of the things he left me was an aluminum cigar tray with the locomotive emblem, ('USA 1781'on it)and the embossed letters " 757 RY. SHOP BN. KASSEL GERMANY " It was very neat to see another similar one.
I got the same cigar tray from EBAY just recently in honor of my uncle who was in that Battalion and at that shop in 1945. I picture these trays around the installation screwed to tables and shelves in plants, rec rooms etc....and then, when all was closing down, soldiers and German workers probably swiped them as souvenirs
Another one just turned up although this one the embossed engine is worn or filed off. The rest of it is in amazing condition.
my great grandfather LTC Moe was the commanding officer of the 757th,,these ashtrays are hard to find!
We came across one of the 757 ashtrays just today while inventorying a train collection. The ashtray is in excellent condition.
