Amazing ... My late father, Joseph, was a welder in the 757th RR Batallion in Kassel Germany in 1945. Among some of the things he left me was an aluminum cigar tray with the locomotive emblem, ('USA 1781'on it)and the embossed letters " 757 RY. SHOP BN. KASSEL GERMANY " It was very neat to see another similar one.
I got the same cigar tray from EBAY just recently in honor of my uncle who was in that Battalion and at that shop in 1945. I picture these trays around the installation screwed to tables and shelves in plants, rec rooms etc....and then, when all was closing down, soldiers and German workers probably swiped them as souvenirs
Please also leave an email address so I can respond to your comment or contact me directly: Nancy at militaryrailwayservice@gmail.com I want to make sure I see your comment and I will want to hear more about your Army rail connection! Thanks
Amazing ...
